徐印川观之良久，方才顿悟：碑中间十一个字岂不是生肖动物，独缺一“虎”。
徐印川看到，此为千古一谜，终为被其猜出，欣喜异常。当下唤随从师爷取来批注用的红笔，书写下一草书的“虎”字，补齐了左侧的缺口处。
随行之人只看到徐提督书写了一个“虎”字，并没有人理解他为什么这么写。直到今天提到这个“虎”字，所有人都颇有微词。
